The F-CAT is coming I fear
But don’t you worry, my dear
The F-CAT, the F-CAT, the F-CAT is here.
So pull up a chair and prepare,
Because you may shiver, you may shake,
But make no mistake,
The F-CAT, the F-CAT is so unfake.

The F-CAT is Florida’s Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Rachael submitted this amusing little poem to my site in the 4th grade. By adding the hyphen, the young poet has created an indelible image of this test creeping up on soft sneaky feet.
Reading it, I can’t help but ask, even if we’re too old or young for the FCAT, will we pass the other tests that life hands us along the way? We can only wonder. And shiver and shake.
