You guided me through the dark,
With your warm heart of light.
You kept me from falling,
With inspirational words from the heart.
When I fell in the valley,
You put me on a mountain.
And when the storms of trouble came heading my way,
You stood in front of me,
And told them to go the other way.
When streams of water came out of my eyes,
You told me to stay strong,
And always keep hope alive.
When I wanted to crawl into a space of my own,
And just be alone,
You sat down and put your arms around me,
And said “I love you, Baby.”
When I was closed to the world,
You opened me up,
You gave me a hug,
And I said “I love you, Mom.”
And as we hugged,
I knew for sure that you’re the one,
Who will always guide me through the dark.

I have reason to really appreciate this wonderful tribute to the strength and love of the poet’s mother. I feel it’s a tribute to mothers everywhere.
