Country road heading into sunrise

Did you ever want to live forever?
You wouldn't die—never

You can redo your life being an over-achiever

You can have no worries—try hanging from a lever!
Do anything you want—whatsoever

Going from place to place—whenever
Wouldn't it be just great to live forever and ever?

Changing your name to Trevor
Would that make you clever?

Did you want to live forever?
You wouldn't die—never

Nikki was in the sixth grade when she submitted this intriguing and lighthearted little poem to my site. At the time, she was studying poetry with my friend and co-writer, Linda Reihs.

The poet takes a strangely merry approach to the problems and possibilities of immortality. But forever is a long, long time…
