The Midst

April 6th, 2011

Mount Olympus

In the midst of
burdening on my shoulders
an iron cape
that covers me
so that I
change direction until lost
suffocate ego until sore
shed skin until raw

I move forward
Deliberately step
between
space and no space
Breath and no breath

I am
defiant
relentless
present
and at peace

You will think that you can until you know that you can’t. You will hear more faintly the mantra of the Little Engine, and you will know more surely that you will get off at the next stop and catch a cab.
