If

May 21st, 2014

Eye and cracked face

If I show you who I really am,
What I really like
And what I really want
Would you be with me?

If I make you stare,
Give you reasons to talk
And probably laugh
Would you still be with me?

If I tell you how
Ignorant you are
Maybe make you feel bad
Would you be mad at me?

If I express my feelings
And show the real me
Would you be with me then?
Or would you leave me hanging
Like a painting with faded colors?
I wonder.

Melvin Polanco is an 11th grader at Uniondale High School, studying under Mrs. Diana McIntyre. This poem was submitted this year to a poetry contest at the Uniondale Public Library.

Come back for another day of poetry tomorrow. If you want to be part of 30 Days of Poetry, send your poems to 30daysofpoetry4@gmail.com until May 30th. I look forward to hearing from you!
