The One Who Is Broken

May 17th, 2014

A lonely road

He's the one who's broken.
He's the one who's sad.
He lost many friends,
and he knows this is bad.
He smokes, he drinks,
he's played too many girls.
Maybe it numbs the pain,
maybe it cures the strain.
But, then minutes later,
it all comes back.
Ruining perfect relationships,
for the minutes of a one night stand.
The effects of drugs,
that high is everything,
that buzz from the alcohol,
they all end up as nothing.
He's broken inside.
Nothing can heal the ache
He stays awake, he's up all night.
he hasn't slept in days.
Just trying to find a way
to ease the pain.

Taylor Tickerhoof submitted this poem to my site last year for 30 Days of Poetry 3. The poet was fifteen when this poem was written, and it seems to speak to bitter experience, but nevertheless it is direct, honest and compelling—all of which is echoed in its style and construction.

Come back for another day of poetry tomorrow. If you want to be part of 30 Days of Poetry, send your poems to 30daysofpoetry4@gmail.com until May 30th. I look forward to hearing from you!
