Two Kinds of Happiness

May 27th, 2014

My Birthday

Today’s the day the sun is shining
This is the one day of the year I get recognized: my birthday
A whole day dedicated to me, filled with presents and love
And best of all, CAKE!

My special day where I don’t have any chores or responsibilities
I can do anything I want and no one can tell me I can’t
Why? Because my parents said—of course
Now it’s time for my party

There’ll be music and drinks and contests
And at the end of the day, I can go to bed with a nice feeling in my stomach
I can’t wait until next year for my next birthday

Him

March 11th I’ll never forget
That’s the special day we met
You asked me out
And I said yes
You had my heart from that day on
And even now it still shines on
You’re my pirate and I love you to death
And now, this poem has come to rest.

Krystina Stevens and Autumn Furby are 6th graders at Lawerence Road Middle School, studying with Ms. Sumter.

The poets have shared two kinds of happiness with us here and they are both treats as delicious as a birthday cake.

Come back for another day of poetry tomorrow. If you want to be part of 30 Days of Poetry, send your poems to 30daysofpoetry4@gmail.com until May 30th. I look forward to hearing from you!
